Moisture conversion tables for grains

Moisture meter conversion tables let you convert the temperature and the reading on the meter to percentage moisture content. These tables are updated periodically.

What we provide

The Canadian Grain Commission provides conversion tables for theses models of moisture meters:

  • Model 919/3/5"
  • Model 393/3.5"

We provide regressions (also called calibrations) for these models of moisture meters to dealers:

  • Model 1200A
  • Model 1200D

To obtain regressions for your moisture meter, contact your dealer.

For the Model 1200A moisture meter, we also provide a high moisture corn test weight adjustment table.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide conversion tables for all models of moisture meters. Contact the manufacturer of your moisture meter if you need conversion tables or calibrations for models other than those listed here.

Canary Seed (PDF, 17 kb) – Canary Seed is not a grain under the authority of the Canada Grain Act. Nonetheless, to support the marketing of this seed, the Grain Research Laboratory has developed a conversion table, dated September 1991. Use this table to test a 250 gram sample.
Hemp Seed (PDF, 26 kb) – Hemp seed is not a grain under the authority of the Canada Grain Act. Nonetheless, to support the marketing of this seed, the Grain Research Laboratory has developed a conversion table. Feb. 99, 175 grams, calibrate at 73.
Solin (PDF, 19 kb) - Solin is not a grain under the authority of the Canada Grain Act. Nonetheless, to support the marketing of this seed, the Grain Research Laboratory has developed a conversion table, dated July 2013. Use this table to test a 225 gram sample.

Note: For beans, the ‘damp’ moisture range is over 18%.
Beans – Dutch Brown (PDF, 22 kb) Use the CGC Pea Bean Chart #2 and subtract 1.1% moisture from the chart result.
Beans – Great Northern White (PDF, 22 kb) Use the CGC Pea Bean Chart #2 and subtract 1.4% moisture from the chart result.
Beans – Kintoki (PDF, 282 kb) Use the CGC Dark Red Kidney Bean Chart #2 and read the results directly.
Beans – Otebo (PDF, 22 kb) Use the CGC Pea Bean Chart #2 and subtract 0.3% from the chart result.
Beans – Pink (PDF, 22 kb) Use the CGC Pea Bean Chart #2 and subtract 1.1% moisture from the chart result.
Beans – Small Red Use the regression formula:
% moisture = 0.155 X meter reading + 8.03 + {0.1 X (22 - T)}

Sample Size -- 250 grams
Mixed Grain Use the conversion table and the tough and damp limits of the predominant grain.
