About the product segregation codes

Product segregation codes and product codes are numeric codes created by the Canadian Grain Commission in association with grain industry stakeholders. Product codes are 2–digit numeric codes that indicate the grain type and country of origin. Product segregation codes are 4–digit numeric code that indicates the product’s grade. If Canadian grain has been blended with imported grain, the grain is coded as CIO (Canadian and imported origin) product. In this case, the segregation code indicates the pair of origin countries of the blended grain.

Product segregation codes are used by Canadian Grain Commission inspectors and weighers, licensed grain elevators and rail companies. These numeric codes provide a standardized method for coding and sharing information electronically between the Canadian Grain Commission and grain industry stakeholders.
