WINNIPEG, April 22, 2008 - To help producers prepare for a new declaration system for western Canadian wheat, the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) has posted a Declaration of Eligibility for the Class form on its web site.

The Declaration of Eligibility for the Class form is part of the new declaration system, which is being introduced by the Canadian grain industry on August 1, 2008. Starting August 1, producers will be required to complete the form once a year at every elevator where they deliver wheat, and to verbally declare the class of wheat for each load they deliver. By signing the form, producers are confirming that the wheat they will deliver is eligible for a specific western Canadian wheat class.

The new class declaration form was developed by an industry group comprised of producers, and members of the Western Grain Elevator Association, the Inland Terminal Association of Canada, the Canadian Wheat Board, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the CGC.

Signing a declaration form at grain delivery is not new for producers. The Declaration of Eligibility for the Class form replaces a previous declaration that producers were required to complete in accordance with the Ineligible Varieties Protocol. The new form will be distributed to producers in the same way as the previous form: by the CGC for producer car deliveries and by grain companies for all other deliveries.

To advise producers of the August 1 changes, the CGC is airing radio ads across western Canada from April 14 to 25; and ran print ads in farm newspapers, weekly newspapers in western Canada and the Peace River area, and select daily newspapers in western Canada from April 13 to 19.
