Annex 2 - PPR-016: Corrective and preventative action

Required outcome

Corrective and preventive actions must be taken when non-conformances have been identified to ensure that they will not be repeated, or to improve the food safety and quality management system, in order to ensure the system continuously protects the safety and quality of grain.

How you can achieve this outcome

Write and implement a Corrective and Preventive program that includes the following:

  1. When possible, non-conformances are corrected immediately and recorded.
  2. The person who has identified a non-conformance that cannot be immediately corrected should report the non-conformance to the person responsible for the element of the FSQMS in which the non-conformance was found. A Corrective and Preventive Action Request form should be developed for this purpose.
  3. Corrective action is the responsibility of the person responsible for the element of the FSQMS in which the non-conformance was found. This person conducts a root cause analysis to determine the cause of the non-conformance and the formulation of the appropriate corrective actions. This should be recorded on the Corrective and Preventive Action Request form.
  4. The specifically identified corrective solution is then put in place. Any actions, which result in the need to modify or add a document or standard operating procedure, must be recorded and implemented following the your document control procedure.

How you can monitor and verify this prerequisite program

Verify that the corrective action was implemented and has been effective in resolving the non-conformance at the next internal audit of the effected element of the FSQMS. Record the results of this verification on the Corrective and Preventive Action Request form.

Your written Corrective and Preventive action program should be reviewed annually to ensure it continues to be current and appropriate.
