Description of the objective:

Plans are being considered to determine the continuation of certain licensing exemptions in order to safeguard the interests of producers and strengthen the grain quality assurance system.

Public consultation opportunities:

Initial consultations with grain producers, feed mills, licensed grain companies and industry stakeholders took place from February 9 to April 9, 2015. Public consultation was facilitated through the publication of the licensing feed mills proposal on the Canadian Grain Commission web site. A summary of stakeholder feedback and next steps is available.

Subsequent online and face-to-face stakeholder consultations with grain producers, licensed grain companies, feed mills, agents, and producer railway car loading facilities were held from April 19, to August 31, 2016. A summary of stakeholder feedback is available. Further consultations could take place through pre-publication in the Canada Gazette, Part I that may be in the 2017 to 2019 planning period.
