Subject to grain inspector’s grade and dockage determination

3. Before you send a grain sample

If a producer delivering grain to your primary elevator asks for a subject to inspector’s grade and dockage determination, you must send a sample of their delivery to the Canadian Grain Commission for inspection. You must also issue the producer an interim primary elevator receipt.

To prepare a grain sample to be sent for inspection:

  1. select a 1000-gram sample that both you and the producer agree is representative of the producer’s delivery
  2. place the sample in an unbreakable container that both you and the producer agree will maintain the quality of the grain sample
  3. label the container: Subject to Inspector’s Grade and Dockage
