Sampling grain

Grain grades are assigned based on samples, so it is important that samples accurately represent the entire lot of grain being assessed. The proper sampling procedures can be used to build a representative sample for any quantity of grain, whether you’re taking hand samples while filling a bin in the farmyard or using an automatic sampler while loading a vessel at port.

Representative samples help Canadian producers, grain companies and exporters get paid fairly for their grain. The Canadian Grain Commission inspects, approves and oversees the operation of all automatic sampling systems at licensed terminal elevators.
